FAQ’s
Q: I am a solo artist but also compose for a duo and a full band. I see that it’s one track per artist, but I have songs with each project that would fit. Can I submit more than one?
A: Yes. It’s one track per artist/ensemble, so in your case you could submit up to three tracks, as long as you are the sole composer or have permission from all co-writers.
Q: I have a track but it’s in .mp3 format, not .wav or equivalent. Can I submit it?
A: Yes. It won’t be considered media-ready for media outlets like the CBC, so it might not be played by them, but your link can still join the Great Canadian Playlist and be accessed by the public.
Q: I have a track that I’d love to submit but it’s a co-write. Do I need the permission of the other writers?
A: Yes. This is a professional courtesy and there is a checkbox for this on the Submission Form.
Q: I submitted a track a few days ago and it seemed to be accepted but haven’t heard back yet. Is there an issue?
A: Thanks for submitting, and thanks for your patience. We are all volunteers, but we will get to it and respond ASAP. Also check the Junk/Spam/Promotions folders.
Q: I compose for a chamber music string quartet. Is instrumental music accepted?
A: Yes. We highly recommend that you add a note in the comment box on the Submission Form about how your piece speaks to what Canada means to you, as this text is searchable and could prompt media outlets to program your piece.
Q: I had a rough idea for a track and ran it through AI to complete it, but it’s basically my song. Can I submit it?
A: No. The Submission Form requires artists to sign off that their track has no AI content. Nothing against AI, but this project is artist-centered.
Q: My track has been accepted for the playlist. How will I know if and when it has been accessed by others.
A: This could happen in a few ways. For radio play, you would receive notification through SOCAN. Elbows Linked might feature it in push notifications on our socials or mailing lists. Finally, if you notice an uptick in “likes” or other reactions wherever your track is hosted, this might be due to Elbows Linked.
Q: I have had a track accepted, but want to switch it out for another one that I now prefer. Can I do this?
A: Yes. Simply submit the new track via the Submission Form. We will catch the duplication and switch it out for you automatically at our end.
